A brewing company that has been in the center of its namesake city’s love affair with beer for almost a decade is adding another playground where its customers can enjoy some suds.
Denver Beer Co. unveiled plans last week for a third brewery and taproom. Set to debut sometime this summer, the new location will be at 2425 S. Downing St. in the city’s suburban Rosedale neighborhood, near Harvard Gulch Park and Porter Adventist Hospital.
Taking over the space previously occupied by brunch spot Maddie’s Restaurant, the new outpost will be more of a beer complex than a traditional taproom.
One building on the property will house the tasting room and a restaurant. Another, smaller building (about 750-square feet) will host another dining option. Outside, there will be about 10,000 square feet of patio space. Renderings provided by Denver Beer Co. show the patio populated with long picnic tables and other seating areas and a grassy or turf-covered space. Dining concepts are yet to be determined, according to last week’s press release.
“We hope this new taproom will become a community gathering place and hub for the surrounding south Denver neighborhoods including Platt Park, South Wash Park, DU area, and Harvard Gulch areas,” Denver Beer Co. co-founder Patrick Crawford said in a statement. “The space will be welcoming for all as it will have family-friendly play spaces and food, yard games, and communal tables for hanging with friends after work or on the weekends.”
Known for signature beers including its Graham Cracker Porter and Princess Yum Yum Raspberry Kolsch, Denver Beer Co. debuted in 2011. Its original taproom at 1695 Platte St. has become a haven for beer lovers, cyclists, runners and others in the city’s Lower Highland area. In the summer of 2017, the company opened a taproom in a former car dealership in Olde Town Arvada.
International architecture and design firm Gensler and Denver-based Spectrum General Contractors, the same team that worked on the Arvada location, will be leading the new project.
Once open, the Downing Street location will have a dedicated brewing team and create exclusive beers, according to the news release. Those people are expected to collaborate with brewers across the company, including those at its production and canning facility, Canworks. In total, the facility will create 15 new jobs, according to Denver Beer Co.
